Project in the spotlight: Van Marcke
The Belgian market leader in the distribution of plumbing and heating, Van Marcke, centralised its logistics services in a new distribution centre in the transport zone "LAR-south Kortrijk". MUTECwas responsible for the roof sealing.
The new distribution centre, the biggest investment ever made for Van Marcke, became a true showcase of sustainable techniques:
The site is water and CO²-neutral, the logistics services reduce packaging waste and the number of kilometres driven and, consequently, the emissions of trucks.
The building is equipped with geothermal heating. Heat and cold are extracted from the subsurface using 512 drillings, giving a peak capacity of 1 megawatt !
Furthermore, the roof contains 16,000 m² of solar panels, good for a capacity of 2 megawatts peak. This electricity is used for automatic warehouses, lighting, heat pumps and the loading of rolling stock.
Van Marcke also filters the black "parking water" using IBA installations to generate grey water. Together with rainwater, the filtered water is stored in basins with a capacity of half a million litres. And with the help of innovative pumps regenerated into drinking water.
With the construction of its new distribution center, the company obtained the BREEAM certificate, a strict sustainability label and rating system that stands for sustainability in the broadest sense of the word, from a sustainable building concept to the use of sustainable techniques and materials, with attention for all stakeholders.
